My friend and mentor Robert Tennyson Stevens taught me something really profound: We tend to see the words feelings and emotions interchangeably, but are they really the same?
Feeling is really a transfer of energy. We can feel heat. We can feel love. We can feel anger.
But is that what emotion means? He proposes that emotion is E-motion – lack of motion. As in no energy transfer. Trapped energy.
Why is this important? Well, if you have the e-motion of anger, it means anger is stuck in your body. Many in the wellness world have seen that anger seems to have a frequency that is similar to the frequency in the liver. It’s often said that this anger gets stored there. Making it difficult for the liver to properly do its job of detoxification and hormone management.
Other feelings can get trapped as e-motions in other areas in the body and can disrupt our our body functions physically. I have personally experienced this, and experienced what happens when the feeling is free to move and pass too. And it is nothing short of miraculous.
Today, I’d like to encourage you to give yourself permission to feel things. Start with the ones that don’t seem so scary if you need to, but let yourself feel. I can promise you two things: 1. The feeling WILL pass. 2. It will transform your world. ?
